I recently bought a 1 tb Seagate Barracuda internal hard drive, which has been installed and running fine as my primary drive for the last month. My backup drive runs OS 10.3.9.
This morning my daughter was uploading some pictures to Snapfish when a message suddenly came across the screen saying, 'You must restart your computer now.' She restarted, and the computer only starts up on the old backup drive. Disk utility won't even show the new drive.

PowerPC :: Internal HDD Doesn't Mount?

I have a Dual 1.8 G5. I've been experiencing shutdowns at start up but came to the conclusion that it was the primary hard drive failing somehow. So I installed 10.4 on a secondary hard drive and use that as my main and it works.
So this hard drive that failed is readable when I boot from CD and run disk utility. But if I boot in 10.4 the disk doesn't mount but it shows up in disk utility as unmounted. Also shows up in system profiler.
Is there a way I can get this drive to mount so I can make backups of stuff on there? Right now I'm transferring files using Terminal when I boot from CD - it would be easier if i can use a GUI interface to do this.

MacBook :: Can Not Eject Disk, Remount Instantly?

I am having problem to eject an external flash drive in my MacBook. After I eject the disk, the icon disappears normally, but re-appears instantly before I plug it out from the USB hub. So, every time I end up with an irritating warning sign.
Is there a way to stop remounting a disk once it is ejected from the system?
The flash drive I am having problem is actually not a generic flash drive but a mp3 player manufactured by Iriver - Iriver T5, which also work as a flash drive for me and a cross-plateform disk space for use in emergency.
I do not have this problem with other dedicated flash and external drivers.
Please share if you have any solution or thoughts toward the solutions.

Mac Pro :: Manually Mount Internal HDD, Software Options?

I have filled the 4 bays of my MP with 30GB SSD's in RAID 0 and have a 1TB traditional HDD in the optical bay. In an effort to keep the machine as speedy as possible I was hoping to keep the traditional 1TB unmounted until it use is needed (wont be that often).
I am familiar with how to unmount/eject a drive once the computer is running, but is there a way for the machine to start up without it trying to access the drive thus slowing the boot time?

I have an older Mac G4 running OS X (10.4.11) and I have three internal hard drives, one of which will not mount. I can hear it spinning up and trying to mount, but it won't.Is it trashed? Tried zapping PRAM, repairing permissions.

Software :: IBook G4 Unable To Mount New Internal HD - Bootup With External Hdd

i bought a ibook G4 off of a friend and knowning it needed some repairs it needed a new Harddrive. He had a 100Gig Seagate replaced in it before me and I tried a new 60Gig when I got it.either one of us couldnt boot either HD, we can not find the new Internal HD with the Mac. I can boot off a External HD holding down ALT. And i already tried clearing the P-ram many times.
Also when i go to load a 10.3 OSX disk it loads and either gives me a red circle X or like sorta artfacts and shifts the apple screen to the side of the page. Ive spent hours trying to fix this and have no luck. do i need a 10.4 or 10.5 disk? i did add 256MB ram to it so heres the specs. I have no clue what to do. ALSO! when i boot the external under the specs it wont show the HD under disk utilty or the about my pc info..

I recently purchased a new SSD and would like to input that into my MBP 2012. If I have a partition on my external HDD that contains the carbon copy of my MBP, am I able to clone it into my SSD after I have installed it in the MBP through the USB?

Power Mac G5 :: Want To Use Second Internal HD As An Internal Back Up Drive?

I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but..My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one..What is the best way to set up my second HD as a 'slave' drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?

MacBook :: Startup Disk Cannot Mount?

I was surfing this site a couple of days ago when my MacBook suddenly froze up. I couldn't Force-Quit anything or do a soft restart, so I decided to just power-cycle restart (pressing the power button until it shut down, then pressing it again to start up). When I did so, my startup disk wouldn't mount.
I should give you a little background: Mine is a MacBook White early 2009, with upgraded 4GB RAM & 500GB 5400rpm Fujitsu HDD. I took the HDD from an off-the-shelf 2.5' external HDD. It has served me well for slightly over a year, and is only now giving me this problem.
I have since replaced the original HDD (which I was keeping as a emergency backup, phew) and put the problem HDD in an external FW enclosure.
I have run Disk Utility on it to try & rectify the problem. Disk First Aid says the disk is fine, but I just couldn't get it to mount. I thought I'd try to erase it and restore from my TM backup, but after I erased the disk, it still couldn't mount. What's worse, now the disk is apparently not writeable, and I can't even erase it. Disk First Aid is still telling me the disk is fine.
I've also tried booting from my SL install disk, but it won't mount the disk to install SL. It is still visible in Disk Utility, but greyed out.
Can anyone advise what I can do to recover the disk?
I can't really bring it in for a warranty exchange, cos I ripped this disk out of the original enclosure, so the enclosure is now completely busted, and obviously the warranty won't be honored. (Buying the external was cheaper than buying just the internal, and Fujitsu had a pretty OK reputation for their harddisks at that point. Could you blame me?)
So any software or hardware (or combination) solution would be great. Worst case scenario is to get a new HDD, but I'd still like to recover the use of this disk somehow.

MacBook Pro :: CDs Freeze ITunes And Do Not Mount

Whenever I put in a commercial audio cd in, it mounts as 'Audio CD'. It s been a while since I've put an audio cd in, but I thought it gave the artist title. Also, iTunes is supposed to open..well instead of opening, it just bounces on my dock.
When iTunes IS open and an audio cd is put in, iTunes will freeze up with the spinning wheel of death. I cannot force quit iTunes until I have ejected the CD, and cannot eject the CD unless iTunes is closed.It a very weird problem. The warranty on my Mac has expired.

I purchased a Seagate Momentus 2.5' Internal SATA 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive. I put it into an external USB enclosure to clone my existing MacbookPro 160GB hard drive and then planned to swap them and install the new 500 GB HD. But when I plug in the external drive case, I do not see the Seagate drive mounted and cannot see it in Disk Utility either.
The external enclosure comes with a USB cable with two USB connectors to provide data transfer and power.
Any suggestions how I can mount this drive so I can clone the internal drive?

This morning, I had to print off some pictures from my digital camera for my art class, so I stuck my memory card (1 GB) into the slot, and it worked just fine. The other day, I plugged my LG Lotus into my MBP via USB and it also worked normally. Tonight, I tried to connect my phone once again, and it didn't mount. So, I tried the memory card in an adapter and it didn't mount either! My MBP isn't old at all (got it at the end of November '09)!

I have tried a Samsung Drive and an ASUS slim drive (that worked twice, then stopped working). They do show up in the Disk Utility, but not on the desktop. Disc Utility states that burning is not supported, even though I was able to burn two discs with the ASUS before it stopped as well. I had my keyboard replaced around the same time as the issue starting, it is possible that they could they have messed with something by accident. The tech did also forget to put a screw in above the DVD Drive. I also will note the internal drive is a Combo Drive, not a superdrive.

I've got an external 500gb Seagate drive with 2 journalised partitions...one for my time machine backups and the other for holding audio samples for my drum machines and such. All of a sudden today the audio partition won't mount but the time machine partition still works fine. I go into disk utility and it shows ther but just says unable to mount when I try to mount it. It suggests first aid so I verify and repair numerous times and it says everything is ok. I can boot up Ubuntu in VMware andboth partitions are visible and all the files are there..everything is just as it should be. I was using 10.5.7 and just upgraded to 10.5.8 tonight and nothing changed.

Not only did my MBP hard drive just stop working, but I needed to get the files off of my time machine backup on my other mac. My other mac was running very slow so I upgraded it to SL.
After I upgraded, I plugged my 1TB WD hard drive into it and it does not recognize the hard drive. It worked find before I did the upgrade.

External disks such as external hard drive, thumb drives, and SD cards are frequently used as extended storage for digital devices or portable media for file sharing.

• Step 1: Connect the external hard drive to the Mac and wait for it to be mounted on the desktop.
• Step 2: Right click the icon of the external disk and select Get Info.
• Step 3: Unfold Sharing & Permissions at the bottom. A message ' You can only read' will be shown underneath.
• Step 4: Click on the lock at the corner and input your user name and password.
• Step 5: Click the Read only under Privilege of your user name and select Read & Write.
• Step 6: Click on the lock to ensure the change.

If you are the administrator of this computer, you can also tick the box in front of 'Ignore ownership on this volume' and then input your admin password to be able to write to the external disk.

Case 2: macOS has read-only support to NTFS-formatted disks.

If the restrained file permission is not the cause, file system incompatibility could be the roadblock. Still in the Get Info window, under General information, you can see the Format is Windows NT File System.

NTFS is the proprietary file system by Microsoft and macOS only allows read-only access to NTFS. When using an external USB drives such as external hard drive, solid-state drive or thumb drive, you will find you can't store any files to it and existing files are locked or read-only.

To enable full NTFS read and write access, you can modify macOS kernel extension through commands. But it will become tedious because you need to do it every time you restart your computer.

Remount External Hard Drive Mac

Another one-for-all solution is to back up the current files and format the disk to FAT or exFAT. The drawback is that it is time-consuming especially when you have tons of data to back up.

We recommend you install free NTFS for Mac to read/write to a Windows NTFS drive.

• Step 1: Download iBoysoft NTFS for Mac or any other app you may be interested in.
• Step 2: Install the app and launch it following the onscreen wizard.
• Step 3: Read & write to NTFS-formatted disks freely if the disk is automatically mounted in read-write mode. If not, manually unmount and remount the disk by yourself.

Case 3: The external drive becomes read-only because it is corrupted.

Purchase microsoft word for mac. Most times, when a disk is corrupted, the macOS is unable to mount it or shows 'the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer' error when it is plugged in.

It is rare that a corrupted disk still can be viewed as usual. However, in a certain scenario, the disk still can be mounted in read-only state to prevent data overwritten from any writing activities.

This could be a warning sign that your external storage device is failing. You should get hands on saving your files and fixing the corrupted disk.

• Step 1: Move your files to another destination to make sure they are safe before the disk completely stops working. If necessary, use professional data recovery software to restore important files.
• Step 2: Open Disk Utility and find the disk on the right sidebar. Disk Utility can be found in Applications folder in Finder.
• Step 3: Right-click on the disk and select Run First Aid.

• Step 4: Eject the disk safely and reconnect it to the Mac if the disk still can't be mounted to be editable.

First Aid can only fix minor software errors on a storage medium, so big chances are that it may fail to fix the read-only disk.
